Britain has a fine reputation for many things, but in the world of cycling, there’s nothing that defines the UK as much as the hardcore hardtail, and Whyte are the absolute masters.
The 901 is a quintessential hardtail. The alloy frame is light, but it’s also tough. Really tough. It can take a beating and keep coming back for more. It’s also got its geometry dialled. Whyte pioneered the long and slack geometry you’ll find on all current mountain bikes, and the 901 is no exception. That long top tube, short 35mm stem, wide 780mm bars and slack head angle come together to make a super stable ride that is at home smashing down flat-out descents sharp enough for snaking down sketchy line choices. Probably the hardest of hardtails you’re likely to find.
This 901 model features a 130mm travel Rockshox 35 Gold with big stanchions to further increase the 901’s bulldozer-like attributes. Super-wide 27.5 x 2.8″ tyres add masses of grip and traction. You’ll never skid out on a climb, and you’ll soon be searching out tougher lines on the descents thanks to the sticky nature of these high-volume tyres. New to the V4 model is SRAM’s Eagle drivetrain providing a 1×12 super-wide range of gears in a slick package while TRP Slate Evo brakes rein it all in when things get out of hand.
Are you a dedicated, regular mountain biker looking for a fun, fast and totally reliable ride? The 901 should be right up your street.
