Cannondale Supersix Evo Neo 2 – Sage Gray

This bike is electric, but not as you know it.

Cannondale have always gone their own way with technology, and often to great effect. The SuperSix Evo Neo 2 is no different. Electric road bikes are coming in a big way now, but rather than build bulbous frames to house big motors and bigger batteries, the Neo takes the radical approach of putting the motor inside the rear wheel. This sytem is so neat that you’ll barely notice it’s there at all.

The battery lives inside the frame with the same tubing profiles as the regular SuperSix Evo, that race winning bike that’s equal parts light, aero and all out fast. No boxy tubing here, the Neo is all speed. The motor itself sits in the rear hub producing up to 250W of power inline with other e-bikes. A button in the top tube lets you select how much assistance you require and then you can just ride away, with just that little bit of help on the hills and against headwinds. This system is so light, you can ride the bike without it being on just like a standard, albeit excellent, road bike. The 250WH battery isn’t as large as some competitors, but it is efficient and with the bike being so light, it goes a long way especially with the airfoil tube shapes reducing drag by up to 30%.

The rest of the bike is as you’d expect of a top level road bike. Full carbon frame that is light, stiff, aero and with tyre clearance for 28mm tyres so it’s comfy too. A Shimano Ultegra groupset with 2×11 speed gearing provides a wide gear range and matching hydraulic brakes keep the speed in check on fast descents. Cannondale’s own wheels and finishing kit complete an excellent value package. Electric road bikes are still fairly new, but to get such a spec and performance at this price really does put the Neo 2 as a front runner.

As a road bike, the SuperSix Evo is world class, and Cannondale’s electric integration is simply outstanding. Top value and top performance: the Neo 2 is a class act.
