Emonda is Trek’s lightweight road bike built for big climbs and hard racing. However, it would be a mistake to think it’s a one-trick pony.  The SL models with their 500 Series OCLV Carbon frames feature aerodynamic tube shapes and an incredible ride feel, so there’s no ride quality compromise for the weight savings. Trek’s H1.5 geometry puts the rider in an aerodynamic body position without the need for uncomfortable contortion. This is important for maximising efficiency because the rider is the greatest source of drag in the bike/rider system.Â
The Emonda Sl 5 comes equipped with the 2×11 Shimano groupset. This is very much the entry-level racing groupset with all the trickle-down shifting performance of mechanical Dura-Ace and Ultegra, just a little heavier. The compact chainset and 11-30t cassette balances range with small gearing jumps, to make it easy to find a comfortable cadence whether you’re smashing a hill climb, blasting along the flats or powering down a descent. Hydraulic disc brakes provide excellent stopping power in the dry and the wet, so you can easily keep your speed in check on fast descents. The 28c tyres have a puncture-proofing layer and enough volume to take the sting out of poor roads while still being lightning fast.
If you’re getting into racing or you just want a beautifully engineered bike that’s versatile enough to take on any kind of road ride, then you should take a look at the Emonda SL 5.
