The Trek Powerfly is ready for anything. It has a 120mm travel (80mm for XS) front suspension fork and chunky tyres for taking on off-road terrain and singletrack. It also has mounts for mudguards and a pannier rack. So what is it then? A mountain bike for shredding trails, or a hybrid bike for commuting and shopping. The answer is:Â whatever you want it to be.Â
The Powerfly 4 625 Gen 4 has a Bosch electric assist system at its core. The performance line CX drive unit kicks out 250 W of power and 85 Nm of torque at speeds of up to 25 km/h. That’s enough to flatten even the steepest of hills, so you can pedal easier for longer. The large 625 Wh battery carries enough charge to take you over 100 km on eco mode (estimate). It nestles cleanly into the frame and can be removed easily for charging or security, thanks to Trek’s RIB system. The Bosch electronics use their new Smart System technology which links your bike to the Bosch app for all sorts of extra functionality. You can configure the different assistance levels, plan rides and navigate with built-in range calculation and lock the motor, among many other useful features.
A Shimano Deore 10-speed drivetrain transmits power to the rear wheel. It delivers smooth and reliable shifting along with a large gear range, so you can pedal comfortably at any speed. The Tektro hydraulic disc brakes use large rotors for plenty of stopping power in the dry and the wet. When the going gets rough, you’ll be glad of having the SR Suntour XCM 34 suspension fork to soak up the bumps in the trail.
Whether you’re looking for a trail-ready electric bike for lapping the local singletrack again and again, or you want a versatile get-about bike that can get you across town fast, the Powerfly is the bike for you.
